I finished my beginner art course with Thrive art and I am doing the intermediate course. My first project was to make a octopus using oil pastels. I never used oil pastels like this. Only a little in school in art class. In this project I learned different ways to use them (like to blend them or hold them different ways). They get kind of messy but they are fun to use. This is my first picture. 🙂

Ultra-cool octopus, Jojofett! I used to love working with oil pastels — glad to see you’re enjoying them, too! (Although you’re right, they are messy!) Well done!
Thank you. 🙂 That is nice of you. I got them all over my face and didn’t know it! 😀
I love it JoJo! 😀 It’s a nice octopus!
Thank you Erik! 😛
It’s beautiful, Josie!
Thank you! You are nice! 🙂
Josie your imiprovement is noticeable. I love the shading on the octopus. Nice job. ❤
Thank you. I tried to use different colors for the sandy sea bottom. 🙂
Josie, I’ve been looking at your work, mesmerized. Sorry for the extra comment, but I have a question. How did you get the tiny dot of white in the eye? It is fantastic. If I saw this in a gallery, I would buy it. It is beautiful. 😀
🙂 You are very nice. I used a marker to draw the octopus and colored it with oil pastels. When I made the eye with marker I left a little spot open for the white dot. Miss Theresa the art teacher says that makes the eye more real. I am happy you like it. 🙂
What a beautiful piece of art : )
Thank you Auntie India! 😀
Looks even better finished! Uncle Dave loves it too. Awesome job.
🙂 Thank you Aunt Char Char. 🙂 Tell Uncle Dave thank you too!
Hi Josie! It’s so fun to see your octopus art! You did an amazing job layering those pastels. Wonderful detail.
Theresa
Thank you Ms. Theresa! 🙂
It is amazing and life like. Great work Josie. You have a great talent.
Thank you Daddy!
Josie – your octopus is beautiful! Oil pastels do get messy, don’t they? I enjoy the vibrant colors of oil pastels. You did a great job blending so many colors. Seriously, beautiful art!

Thank you! The oil pastels do get messy. I had some on my nose and didn’t know it! 😉
